Quyang is named “China’s Native Place of Sculpturing” by the Chinese State Council .
Back to Han Dynasty, Quyang stone sculpture was already applied to architectures. Its unique style came into being during Beiwei. Masterpieces made by Quyang craftsmen , such as “Celestial Dove” and “Dry-branch Plum” once won the second place in Panama International Art Exposition. Hence it is said that Quyang stone sculpture is the best in the world. Ever since the founding of PRC in 1949, Quyang craftsmen have been involved in projects like the capital’s top ten architectures, the restoration of The People’s Hero Monument in Tiananmen Square, the construction of Chairman Mao’s Memorial and the Monument in Tianjin commemorating the Luan River led into Tianjin. Works such as “Crouched Beast and Guangying”, “ Three High Officials” made by Lu Jingqiao ,the national industrial artist, are collected in China’s Industrial Museum. Quyang sculpture adheres to the combination of realism and Romanism. Its products are embroidered with the refinement of wood sculpture, the exquisiteness of tooth sculpture, and the verisimilitude of jade sculpture, featuring round, relief and line sculpturing techniques with perspective, anatomy and aesthetics application to stone sculpture. The products are sculpted with elegance, liveliness as well as details. Quyang offers a variety of products ranging from archaized items to modern portrait, from architecture decoration to family ornaments, all of which sell well in more than 80 countries or regions such as Japan, the United States, Canada, Thailand and Singapore.
In 1986, the ex-CCP Secretary Hu Yaobang wrote “the Native Place of Sculpturing” during his inspection in Quyang; in 1992, Tian Jiyuan , the former vice chairman of the National People’s Assembly, gave the name “Oriental Stone Sculpting City” to Yangping economic development zone in Quyang; in 1995, Quyang was officially named “ The Native Place of Sculpturing in China ”by the State Council. Quyang is beyond compare in its industry size, products variety, and employee, high prestige, and the influence of radiation.
Currently Quang has formed a “one city-one line –three districts” pattern.( one city namely “Oriental Stone Sculpting City”; one line, Qu-Xing highway; three districts, districts of Yangping, Wende and Dangcheng). There are two sculpturing group corporations, more than 1200 enterprises and stalls with millions of employees and an annual production value of 720 million RMB. Recently a sculpturing corridor occupying over 1000 mu has been marked out and being constructed on both sides of the highway from the county capital to Yangping district. It can accommodate 50 sculpturing and board companies after its construction. At present, “the Sculpture Palace” with 50 million RMB investment has been put into use. |
