Currently, the government of Quyang, the Native Place of Sculpturing, is holding a press conference, announcing that the Third International Sculpturing Art Festival Quyang, Hebei, China will be open on Sept. 9—11, 2005. Quyang has a long history of sculpturing. On May 11, 2005, the president of Tsing Hua University presented a miniature of sundial made of white boulder to Sun Chuyu, president of People First Party in Taiwan during his visit to the mainland. This sundial is made exactly by Quyang artists. The festival is sponsored by Baoding Municipal government and co-sponsored by Quyang County government and Wei Ye Dai Exhibiting Corporation Limited, Beijing. Supports are also appreciated from the following organizations and institutions such as Hebei Provincial government, the National City Sculpture Construction Instructing Committee, China Hard Ware and Chemical Import & Export Society, Sculpturing Institution of China Central Art Academy, China Construction and Decoration Committee, China Industrial Art Sculpturing Committee, China Artist Sculpturing Committee, China Trade Promotion Publicizing Bureau, and China Stone Industry Society, etc. The theme of the festival is: “open, creative and double win”. More than a million will attend including officials from the state, provincial and municipal governments, visitors both at home and abroad, press reporters and tourists. The festival includes: 1.stone sculpturing competition, 2. opening and award ceremonies, 3.exhibition and business talks, 4.international sculpturing forum, 5.investment talks, 6.tours of scenic spots and sculpturing companies, 7. auction, 8. the close ceremony with a display of fireworks. Quyang County is situated west of North China Plain, and east of Taihang Mountain. It occupies an area of 1084.6 square kms with a population of 53 thousand within the fast growing greater Beijing economic zone. Quyang, one of the counties with long history in Hebei Province, is famous for “the Native Place of Sculpturing”. Started in Han Dynasty, Yuyang Sculpturing became popular in Tang, and reached its prosperity in Yuan Dynasty. With the natural advantage of marble resources and deep-rooted sculpturing culture, it has fully developed through 2000 years, employing millions of craftsmen. Over the past two decades, guided by the opening and reforming policy, Quyang Sculpturing has been enjoying a tremendous diversified prosperity in every aspect. Currently, it has 3 world-class master artists, more than 100 state-class artists, 2260 enterprises and stalls, and 24000 workers. Its products sell well in more than 80 regions and countries.
